The International Justice sweatshirt represents a powerful statement for those who value justice and accountability. All proceeds from this item will be donated to the Red Cross Ukraine, which provides aid to Ukrainian victims of Russian aggression.
Our unisex sweatshirt is made from a high-quality cotton blend, ensuring comfort and durability. Grey color is neutral, making it versatile and easy to pair with any streetwear outfit. Unique design features embroidery that reads 'Crimen Contra Pacem' in Latin. This crewneck sweatshirt is not only an ideal choice for all seasons but also serves as a symbol of solidarity with those who pursue and enforce international justice.
The Latin term 'Crimen contra pacem' translates to 'crime against peace' and is the predecessor of the present-day crime of aggression.
The concept of 'crime against peace' was first introduced in the Charter of the International Military Tribunal (IMT) at the Nuremberg Trials following World War II, which was set up to prosecute leaders of Nazi Germany for war crimes, crimes against peace, and crimes against humanity. The IMT defined crimes against peace as "planning, preparation, initiation, or waging of a war of aggression, or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances, or participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of any of the foregoing."
The 1946 Judgment of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg stipulated that “War is essentially an evil thing. Its consequences are not confined to the belligerent states alone but affect the whole world. To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.” (IMT Vol. 22, p. 427).
The philosophical basis for this is found in just war theory, which states that waging a war without an acceptable cause for self-defense is unjust.
By condemning aggression, we can work toward accountability. When pursued correctly, holding people accountable for heinous crimes not only acts as a powerful deterrent but is also critical for successful reconciliation and strengthening peace in post-conflict societies. When people go unpunished, it erodes the foundation of society and fuels distrust among communities and the State, hindering long-lasting peace.
"The common sense of mankind demands that law shall not stop with the punishment of petty crimes by little people. It must also reach men who possess themselves of great power and make deliberate and concerted use of it to set in motion evils which leave no home in the world untouched."
– Robert Jackson, Opening Address for the United States, Nuremberg trials
